You knew it was coming and on Friday afternoon, it did.

Toronto FC has permanently banned four fans from entering BMO Field and any MLSE facility after the violence at BMO Field on Tuesday night during and after TFC’s Canadian Championship quarter-final loss to CF Montréal.

The club statement read in full:

Following separate incidents at BMO Field on Tuesday evening, security investigations concluded that multiple fans violated the venue’s code of conduct. While the investigation remains ongoing, by multiple organizations, and additional offenders are expected to be identified and subject to discipline, four individuals have been immediately and permanently banned from all MLSE facilities, without an ability to apply for reinstatement in the future. Toronto FC and all of MLSE’s teams and venues, place the highest priority on ensuring that everyone in our environment, including fans, staff and players can safely enjoy their event experience.

The four individuals will not have the ability to reapply for reinstatement in the future, a hardline stance by MLSE showing just how seriously they have taken Tuesday’s incidents.

A viral video circulated on Twitter Tuesday night showing fights in the visiting supporters’ section — the upper northeast corner of BMO Field — with CF Montréal fans alleging that they were attacked.

Then after a frustrating 2-1 loss that saw TFC dumped from this year’s Canadian Championship, midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye got into a verbal confrontation with several fans in the south-end stands. One supporter, standing in a supporters group capo’s box, threw a megaphone in the direction of the Canadian international.

The tweeted video below was deleted from Twitter a couple of hours after being posted on social media.

It is rivalry week in MLS and TFC travel up the 401 to face CFM, just four days after Tuesday’s fiasco.

There will not be any travelling support cheering on the Reds. CF Montréal announced on Wednesday that the designated away supporters section has been closed off for Saturday night’s MLS Matchweek 12 tilt.
