Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio will miss Toronto FC match vs. NYCFC with MCL strain
Just when it looked like the injury demons had left Toronto FC alone, they strike again.
Jonathan Osorio suffered an MCL strain in training on Thursday and will miss Saturday night’s visit from New York City FC.
Osorio was on the pitch for all 90 minutes of TFC’s embarrassing 4-2 thrashing in Philadelphia last Saturday and assisted both Lorenzo Insigne and Richie Laryea’s goals. In the absence of captain Michael Bradley, Osorio wore the captain’s armband the last two matches.
Concerns of losing Osorio, who head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley confirmed is TFC’s third designated player this season, for a considerable amount of time were minimized on Friday.
“I think the news so far has been pretty positive,” Bradley said, as tweeted by former Waking The Red managing editor Michael Singh. “We were all worried that it could’ve been worse, but I think it’s pretty positive. It’s hard to put a timeline on it.”
Osorio was named to the MLS Team of Matchday 9, and according to Opta pulled off something pretty rare on a pretty miserable night in Philly.
What does a TFC midfield look like without Jonathan Osorio and Michael Bradley? Most likely Mark-Anthony Kaye, Brandon Servania and Alonso Coello, but who really knows.
There was little love for TFC in the City of Brotherly Love last weekend, and there will be plenty of TFC fans losing sleep if the Sky Blues from the City that Never Sleeps runs through the Reds at BMO Field like Draino.

Watch that game again and see how Oso does very little in defending three great Philadelphia chances in the first half, one resulted in a goal the other two were a shot off the bar and a sitter that Phila botched, I dont care if he completed 1000 passes when they are meaningless . You have to watch the game closely to recognize how little Osorio did in that match, he didn’t even intend to pass the ball to Lorenzo on the goal.
